Not to be confused with the nine-hole Machrie Bay on the Isle of Arran, Machrie was laid out in 1891 by Willie Campbell and modified by Donald Steel in the late 1970s, but he has not tampered too much with the original links course retaining numerous blind shots. Dominated by imposing sand, the views across Laggan Bay are breathtaking. The lack of bunkers is explained by the positioning of the greens, some are raised, some are in hollows. The weather can make Machrie totally unplayable, then it's time to indulge in one of the many malt whiskies from the Island's distilleries.
The seventh is probably the best hole but eight and nine come close and all three run alongside Laggan Bay.
