Designed by Willie Park Junior over 6392-yards, par 72, and opened in 1908 on an historic deer park, the hilly heathland and parkland terrain enabled the creation of a contrasting variety of holes. A number of long par fours add to the difficulty but the fourth is a feature. After a drive over the heather to a steep downhill fairway, the approach is played over a stream 90 yards in front of the green. Another danger is the 11th that requires a long tee-shot over a cross-bunker and then an approach over a deep gully to a green perched on a ledge on the far side. There are five par threes, fours and fives and each short hole offers a different problem. Brainpower rather than brawn is essential for low scoring.

| Local Directions: | Out Of Southampton Follow the A33 out of Southampton to the M3. When you arrive at the roundabout at the end of the avenue with a garage in front of you turn right into Bassett Green Road. After 1/2 mile you will find Monks Wood Close on the left with a signpost indicates the entrance to the Club. Go across the bridge & follow the road round to the left to find the car park. From the West Take the M27 and exit Junction 5 turning right into the A335 towards Southampton. At the first traffic lights turn right into Bassett Green Road. After 1 mile you will find Monks Wood Close on the right with a signpost indicates the entrance to the Club. Go across the bridge & follow the road round to the left to find the car park. From the East Using the M27 again exit at Junction 5, turn left towards Southampton and follow the same instructions as if coming from the West. From the North Follow the M27 to either Portsmouth or Bournemouth and filter into the A33 towards Southampton after 1/2 mile. At the Chilworth roundabout turn left into Bassett Green Road. After 1/2 mile you will find Monks Wood Close on the left with a signpost indicates the entrance to the Club. Go across the bridge & follow the road round to the left to find the car park. |
