Gullane Golf Club (No 3)

Gullane 3 is the shortest of the three courses – 5,252 yards, par 68, and the least expensive, two-thirds the price of Gullane 1. But it has all the characteristics of its big brother – and the No 2 course – although the rough is probably less penal. The scenery is spectacular, the smallish greens are fast and true and the bunkering is wicked. The seventh is probably the most scenic and most remembered – the tee is perched high, the green well below and the sea is in the far distance. Just one par five, the 443-yard 13th but the par four tenth measures seven yards longer. Even shorter hitters can boost their egos by reaching the shorter par fours in two – as long as the unpredictable Scottish weather is favourable.
