Southerness Golf Club

Southerness is set on the remote Solway Firth with panoramic views of Criffel Peak and across to the Lake District of Cumbria. Philip Mackenzie Ross laid out the course and it is considered to be his best creation. A little over 6,500 yards with a par of 69, it's a tough test with two short par fives offering realistic birdie opportunities, but there are eight par fours over 400 yards. The best holes run along the shore, starting with the eighth and the 12th and 13th are particularly good holes. This is a real hidden gem.

As with anywhere within the club there is a reasonable standard of dress required for people to spend time in the main lounge. The dining room has a very good menu, t is big enough to accommodate reasonably large groups, but you have to book ahead to guarantee a table at the height of season.
