Powfoot Golf Club

At the end of the Solway Firth is Powfoot, one of the area's best but least well-known courses. Laid out by James Braid in 1903, it weaves its way along the Firth on undulating links before the last four holes which are almost parkland in feel. Measuring 6,255 yards, it's not long but five holes are more than 400 yards and the third which hugs the shoreline is a beauty while short seventh and the ninth are also real challenges, the ninth especially with a long carry from the tee and a tricky approach. Gorse dominates the course and another feature is the severity of the bunkers with steep faces while there is the occasional blind shot.
