St Mellion Hotel Golf & Country Club (Nicklaus)

Jack Nicklaus’s first design in Britain in 1988 was the championship course at St Mellion, just over the Cornish border from Plymouth, where the Benson and Hedges International was held for six years. The Bond brothers opened the complex amid 450 acres in 1976 with the scenic Old Course that now offers gentle alternative golf. High tees with good views of the fairways, water hazards and some tight fairways provide a stiff test over a course that can boast 18 strong and varied holes with true putting surfaces that can be played year round. The day tees offer a challenge of just over 6,000 yards, 1000 shorter than the championship markers. New owners Crown Golf are seeking to host further championships.
