Sunningdale Golf Club (New)
Sunningdale New course was created by Harry Colt in 1923 to cater for the increasing needs of members and is friendlier than the established original layout. It is more open, encourages driving and the trees do not encroach the fairways as much. But there are long carries from some elevated tees to the heathery terrain. A 6,700-yard par 70 is in many ways tougher although first-time visitors invariably plump for the Old. The par three fifth is one of the most attractive with idyllic views across the common. The routing, devious bunker placements and a number of doglegs demand careful strategic planning.
