Overview

Irvine begins with one of five par fours over 400 yards followed by short par fours at four and five which require accuracy on a course where gorse and heather line the fairways. Another long par four follows and then there is another short par four. 'Braid' a 373-yard par four opens the back nine, before the longest hole on the course, 465-yard 'Grandstand' named after the remains of the old grandstand on the Bogside Racecourse is next to the dogleg. Views of the Isle of Arran dominate the 12th, one of eight par fours on the back nine. The only par three is the 16th and it's a good 'un with a cross-bunker that means the tee shot has to carry and there's a good finish with a tricky green at the next and lots of sand on the last.

From start to finish the whole experience was exceptional from our introduction to James the professional right through to Bar staff to catering staff our trip couldn't have been better . The golf course itself is a hidden gem with great history having hosting numerous Open qualifiers not to mention Ladies & Juniors championships . Our party was superbly looked after from morning till dust with superb hospitality a brilliant golf course & great catering & bar facility's , overall I would highly recommend this day out for any visiting golf party's.

Two couples, three courses and a window seat all made for a lovely evening with good food, nice views, helpful staff and great surroundings for golf fans Italian Meat platter to start, and Peppercorn Chicken, followed by Tangering Cheesecake was a feast for me. Others enjoyed Minestrone Soup, Pate and Jalapeno Peppers, with main courses of Fish and Chips and Haddock Mornay matched my meal for quality If you can go, then go and enjoy great valued, good food in golfing history.

Played here in the winter months, a very tough and interesting golf course that tests your course management, with 2 short par 4 that tell you to have a bash at the green but get the shot wrong and it can wreck the card, well worth a game, good condition and friendly staff.

Founded in 1887 and redesigned by James Braid. Friendly local club and outstanding course which has been used a Final Round Qualifier for the Open Championship. A balance of shorter holes with some deception and longer holes. Very nice smooth and true greens.
