Royal Troon Golf Club

Think of Royal Troon, 7,079 yards with par of 71, stretching along the Firth of Clyde with spectacular views of the Ailsa Craig and hills on Isle of Arran, and the short Postage Stamp hole comes to mind. It is one of the most famous in the world on one of the greatest links lay out in Ayrshire, firmly fixed on The Open rota. The wind can play havoc with even the best players in the world. The course has hosted the Open seven times between 1923 and 2003. The first five holes were laid in 1878 by 24 local enthusiasts, but it has evolved to become a monster in the wind. Greg Norman’s 64 remains the record for the links, which is full of bumps and hollows, hidden bunkers and demands strength and accuracy with deep rough around the fairways dotted with broom and gorse a test for the world’s finest. The adjacent Portland course and a nine-hole par-three offer further tests.
