Prestwick Golf Club

A plaque revealing that Prestwick, founded in 1851 as a 12-hole course with Old Tom Morris as “Keeper of the Green”, hosted the first Open in 1860 where it stayed until it moved to St Andrews in 1873 greets visitors to a links steeped in history with the clubhouse and 18th green next to the small railway station. The course is unique, a configuration of holes that glide through rugged dunes and uneven fairways. Blind holes, monstrous sleepered bunkers accessed by wooden steps, rapid firm and fast greens, some buried in hollows, others raised, mostly small with sneaky borrows.Top quality links golf with a wide variety of holes. The fifh is a blind par three named “Himalayas” where the tee shot carries a towering sand dune. A unique experience.
