Shipley Gardens, Bridge Road, Hereford, Herefordshire

Shipley is a Wye Valley 17th century homestead standing upon the site of previous dwellings that since Roman times administered the adjacent river ford and former ferry. The wonderfully informal and inspirational garden style has been created during the last 40 years as semi wild gardens in the manner of William Robinson, as garden rooms within a magical structure of trees and shrubs, moulded into the escarpment next to the flood meadow. The gardens are recognised as an environmental paradise for birds , insects, butterflies and small mammals. There are resident Pea Cocks and in 2011 several majestic wild Reeves Pheasants are nesting. The Gardens have a unique and interesting Tea Room with a wide range of delicious Home made cakes.
