Portmeirion garden

Portmeirion gardens are situated on its own private peninsula on the coast of Snowdonia built by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis. The formal village gardens are in the Italianate style and surround the village, the Gwyllt woodlands extend to the end of the peninsula. The woodlands were planted in early Victorian times with the usual mixture of specimen conifers, Douglas Firs, Coast Redwoods and Scots Pines. The coastline is dominated by rugged monterey pines. In Edwardian times major plantings of rhododendron, azalea and Camellia were initiated including a large magnolia campbellii, which is spectacular at Easter with its enormous pink flowers.
