Ten Gardens to Visit during Summer by Kate Simon

"These delightful cottage gardens have been lovingly nurtured over the past 40 years. Wander about the gorgeous spaces, themed by scent and colour, and take a stroll along The Avenue, a 66ft-long double herbaceous border bursting with trees, shrubs and grasses. Stillingfleet doubles as an inspirational setting for occasional workshops, featuring subjects such as pruning trees and understanding clematis."

I visited for the first time today and what a wonderful visit it was. Everything was delightful – the garden is heavenly, the cafe and cakes delicious and the nursery full of gorgeous abundance, particularly of hardy geraniums, one of my favourite plants. Thank you – I’ll be back!

Just lovely, especially the Guinea Fowl and the Chickens. We came for the gorgeous Geraniums and fell in love with the Hostas

Excellent – was quite satisfied with my small cottage garden, until I came here and saw all the different varieties of my more common ones. Refreshing to see a ‘real’ garden and not something maintained by an army of gardeners. I love it.

What a gem of a garden! We were so pleased to find you - I particularly liked the sedums - you have inspired me to look at the different species available. A beautiful and tranquil place to be. Really liked the items in the coffee shop.

We have spent a quiet Saturday afternoon in your wonderful garden, tea and cake in the cafe and buying plants from the Nursery. Don't change a thing, small but perfectly formed.

Beautiful gardens and nurseries, an array of rare and unusual plants and flowers. Peaceful and tranquil gardens to walk around and best of all a cafe and gift shop with hand made local crafts and cakes.

This is one of the best gardens I have been to. It is very tranquil and well laid out. Most of the plants and shrubs are labelled. It was a delight to visit.

I was able to take my friend in her electric buggy :) A great variety of aspects to look at. Short woodland walk, natural pond with seating area, formal water feature enclosed by a beach hedge plus seating, a children's enclosed garden plus many other set out gardens. Unusual plants & trees, packed herbaceous boarders covering every season. There were many places to sit, rest & take in the view & sound of the many birds. If you like chickens... quite a few varieties plus a very talkative goose :) it was a sunny day, so how lovely to be able to purchase an ice cream & be lost in another time & place. Hot drinks plus cake are available on a 'help yourself' service, we took ours & sat outside after paying of course. You can purchase many of the plants from an area to the right as you leave & I found the lady very helpful, she was more than happy to answer people's questions. We also managed to purchase eggs from the chickens we had seen. An added bonus are the tables provided in the car parking area, a field a little further along. We were able to sit for an hour after closing & enjoy the final sounds & scenery of a gloriously pleasant & calming place to visit. :)

Wonderful, inspiring garden, by far the best and most interesting I have ever visited in N.G.S. yellow book. Small compartmental areas, you just wanted to look around every corner!

Attended a bee keeping workshop with my husband. These sessions are offered for individuals or two people so there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get involved. John, Vanessa's husband made the evening extremely interesting, informative and very enjoyable. Highly recommended
