Longleat Gardens

Longleat grounds and gardens were originally laid out in the mid 1700s by Capability Brown and later by Humphrey Repton who reshaped the Half Mile Pond to give it a more irregular appeal, including an island which is now home to Longleat´s resident lowland gorillas. It was during the 1900s that the most dramatic changes appeared at Longleat with the introduction of the first Safari Park outside of Africa. The gardens were also rearranged to create the floral splendour of Longcombe Drive and also numerous azaleas and rhododendrons at the entrance to the park.
