Heale Garden

Heale House has a serene waterside garden situated at the bottom of a broad, chalk valley. With formal lawned terraces running towards the south along an avenue of Robinia pseudoacacia, Italianate garden architecture and formal pools. Rambling roses and herbaceous plants are to be found alongside the river. A Japanese garden is located on an island in the river, originally laid out in 1901, the bridge and tea-house are more recent additions. Perhaps the most memorable area is the old kitchen garden with its topiary and pergolas. There are mixed borders, roses, clematis and herbaceous plants, and always something to see in this garden, including cyclamen in autumn and snowdrops and aconites in winter. Dogs and picnics are not permitted.
