West Dean Gardens
West Dean Gardens is a place of tranquillity and beauty in the rolling South Downs all year round, the award-winning gardens feature a restored walled kitchen garden with some of the finest Victorian glasshouses in the country. A circular walk through a 49 acre arboretum offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the estate´s fine flint country house in its parkland setting. Rustic summerhouses, a lavishly-painted 300ft Edwardian pergola, ornamental borders and a rustic stream with pond contrast with over 200 varieties of carefully trained fruit trees, rows of vegetables and exotic flowers and produce in the walled garden. The visitor centre has a licensed restaurant and gift shop. The new Sussex Barn Gallery has an exciting programme of art exhibitions which showcase work by internationally renowned and emerging artists as well as students of West Dean College.
