The family who played a major part in creating these spectacular gardens went on to create other Sussex stunners like Wakehurst and Leonardslee - and High Beeches Garden is right up there with them as a leading UK horticultural hotspot. All year round, the displays across these 27 acres of plants, trees and shrubs are breathtaking (no wonder English Heritage declared it “outstanding”) .In spring and early summer, expect to be dazzled by a rainbow of colours as daffodils, azaleas, magnolias and rhododendrons join the glades of bluebells on display while in June the wildflower meadow comes to life and has been described as the finest acid flower meadow in Sussex. Come August, a sea of blue explodes as the willow gentians begin to blossom (and High Beeches is the only garden in the UK where these flowers are naturalized). As the leaves start to fall, the yellows, browns and reds of autumn take over, creating a gorgeous colour vista as you walk the winding paths. Take a look at the moving Daffodil Field of Hope, too, where the spring bloom is planted in memory of family and friends.
High Beeches Garden is part of the following Editors' Picks:
Fifteen of the Best Spring Gardens by Veronica Peerless
"High Beeches may be spectacular in autumn, but it’s at its prettiest in spring. There are myriad shades of green as the leaves of the many unusual trees unfurl; these are complemented by the beautiful blooms of magnolias, camellias and azaleas. Visit early in the spring to see the Daffodil Field of Hope, where bulbs have been planted in memory of loved ones."
