Discover the World of Ruyard Kipling

The Jacobean home of Rudyard Kipling, beautiful Bateman’s sits in glorious Downs countryside, surrounded by the wooded landscape of the Sussex Weald. Its 17th century origins are very clearly visible to visitors, from the pretty mullioned windows to lovely old oak beams, it’s no wonder the Kipling family fell in love with this family home on first sighting. The rooms remain very much as if the great author had just slipped out of the house for a minute or two, with oriental rugs and artefacts making this grand building seem truly homey and comfortable while hinting at Kipling’s interest in the East. In Spring, the carpets of daffodils and bluebells complete the perfect English country scene.
