Having undergone extensive redevelopment over the past few years, the Walled Gardens were officially opened by HRH Prince Edward. The Gardens lie within the grounds of a mediaeval Priory, and many of its fine buildings remain.
The Gardens have classic and contemporary features such as the ‘hot’ herbaceous border, the blue garden, a sub-tropical walk and a Victorian style fernery. There is also a botanical glasshouse, where Arid, Sub-Tropical and Tropical plants can be seen. Two smaller gardens within the walls, ‘The Bishop’s’ and ‘Australasian’ gardens are areas of real tranquillity.
As well as ensuring the continuation of a garden on this historic site, the Gardens provide a dynamic learning environment for students, as well as a plant shop and tea room. They really are a gem waiting to be discovered!
