The Walled Gardens of Cannington
Having undergone extensive redevelopment over the past few years, the Walled Gardens were officially opened by HRH Prince Edward. The Gardens lie within the grounds of a mediaeval Priory, and many of its fine buildings remain. The Gardens have classic and contemporary features such as the ‘hot’ herbaceous border, the blue garden, a sub-tropical walk and a Victorian style fernery. There is also a botanical glasshouse, where Arid, Sub-Tropical and Tropical plants can be seen. Two smaller gardens within the walls, ‘The Bishop’s’ and ‘Australasian’ gardens are areas of real tranquillity. As well as ensuring the continuation of a garden on this historic site, the Gardens provide a dynamic learning environment for students, as well as a plant shop and tea room. They really are a gem waiting to be discovered!
