Herterton House garden

Hartington, Cambo, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 4BN

Meticulously planted and beautifully executed, the gardens at Heterton House in Morpeth are a horticulturalist’s delight. Spread over one acre, the grounds of this elegant country plot are split into five gardens – a flower garden with stunning perennials, a nursery garden, a formal topiary garden, a physic garden, and a fancy garden with a two storey gazebo, housing a small exhibition of the garden planting plans and photographs of its construction. In the formal garden look out for contrasting colours, textures and shapes - the clipped evergreens are just lovely and set the tone for wonderful topiary throughout. Go herb and pharmacological plant spotting in the knot garden, potter through the cottagey herbaceous plantings and go admire the whole thing from the staircase of the house which affords lovely views.

Review of Herterton House

A lifetime well spent has produced this stunning garden. Mature, beautiful, well planned and immaculately maintained. Thank you for an exceptional visit from all at Newton Rigg College Horticulture. Our students were so excited to see this garden and I suspect will be coming back soon to see the season unfold.

A lifetime of dedication has produced these breath-taking gardens. The plants are exquisitely chosen and arranged and include such a diversity of plants it is hard to know where to look. Take a camera to any angle of the garden and you'll see timeless mature pieces, subtle construction and hidden gems.
