Mount Ephraim Gardens

Staplestreet, Hernhill, Faversham, Kent, ME13 9TX

Located in the heart of the Kent countryside lies Mount Ephraim, a beautiful family-owned estate with 10 acres of traditional gardens. Our topiary garden, rock and water garden, arboretum and rose garden combine to create a charming experience – a monument to an age gone by.

It's Edwardian terrace gardens proving sweeping views over the Swale and Thames Estuary. First laid out in the early 1900s, the gardens suffered through wartime neglect and damage from use by the army. However, in the early 1950s Mary and Bill Dawes poured their hearts and souls into restoring them – with Mary involved heavily in the day-to-day running until her death in 2009 at the dignified age of 93. It’s this family touch that lends Mount Ephraim Gardens their personal charm. Look down from the terraces towards the sloping orchards, lime green pastureland and the Thames beyond as you wander the grounds taking in the Japanese Rock Garden, lake and lavish rose garden. There is also a wildflower and grass maze to tackle plus an Edwardian tea room to finish up in.

Mount Ephraim Gardens is part of the following Travel Ideas:

Ten Gardens to Visit during Summer by Kate Simon

"The Edwardian gardens at Mount Ephraim offer plenty of excitement for the adventurous green-fingered visitor. Take inspiration from the Japanese rock garden, which leads to a series of pools crossed by stone bridges. Admire the artistry of the birds and animals shaped in the Topiary garden. And play in the Mizmaze, a labyrinth created from tall grasses and wildflowers."

This garden has a wonderful feel to it, with pockets of delight around each corner.
A great place to wander and take photographs , or just to chill out and watch the ducks on the lake.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you a lovely morning.
