Osborne House garden
Osborne House and gardens were originally designed by Prince Albert and Cubitt. The Italianate designs for the terraced formal gardens, complement the house. They have been restored to their Victorian layout and are planted in seasonally changing Victorian bedding. The walled fruit and flower garden includes a variety of trained fruit trees, expansive cut flower borders, and rose and fruit arches. The herbaceous borders are planted with sub tropical and unusual species, very fashionable at the time of Queen Victoria. Pleasure grounds contain mature specimens of unusual trees, many of which were some of the first introductions to Britain. Victoria and Albert´s children learnt the domestic skills of gardening in the grounds adjoining the Swiss Cottage.
