Somerleyton Estate Office garden

Manor Barn, Herringfleet Road, Suffolk, NR32 5QS

An early Victorian stately home, built on the site of a Jacobean Mansion. The hall features fine furnishings, paintings, ornate stonework, carved wood panelling and fine state room.

The gardens are renowned for their splendid specimen trees, and for the famous yew maze designed by Nesfield. There are wonderful shrubs and beautiful herbaceous borders and a 70'-long pergola covered in wisteria. The walled and sunken gardens, Paxton's peach cases and ridge and furrow glasshouses, splendid statuary are also renowned. Nesfield's Parterre was renovated in 2014.

For younger visitors there is a new living willow play area, and the maze in the gardens. In the hall, the famous polar bears and large dolls' house will capture imagination!

Review of Somerleyton Estate Office

My husband and I have a session ticket for Somerleyton Hall and gardens and love to wander round the grounds and the maze. The variety of trees are special and there is always space to find a bit of peace and quiet. The tour of the house is very interesting and worth doing. The cafe has wonderful cakes and sausage rolls and a good cup of tea or coffee. My 6 year old granddaughter loves to run round the grounds and race round the pond and is always the lead in the maze. Great for all ages.

This estate is beautiful. The house is a family home and is lovely. The grounds and gardens are a joy to see. We had lunch at one of the Estates pubs - wonderful.

This as a treat for the children. They loved it, so much care and attention goes into the care of the maze and gardens. Will visit again.

This place was well worth a visit, different from a National Trust as the house is still lived in by the family and this gives the estate a personal touch. A lovely maze to explore and the place where the first hovercraft was tested! Worth booking on a tour to see the house rooms!
