Mapperton Gardens
Mapperton´s terraced valley gardens surround the delightful Tudor/Jacobean manor house, stable blocks, dovecote and All Saints Church. On the upper levels, a walled croquet lawn, then the orangery, an ornate pavilion overlooking the Italianate formal garden with fountains, topiary, grottoes, ponds and herbaceous borders. Below, a 17th century summer house, hedged fishponds, topiary and borders. The lower garden has specimen shrubs and rare trees, leading to woodland and spring gardens. Autumn colour, spring bulbs, used as location in Jane Austen´s Emma, Restoration and Tom Jones.
