Forde Abbey garden

A magnificent former 12th Century Cistercian monastery, Forde Abbey ranks as one of the top ten gardens in England. Built beside the banks of the River Axe in the rolling Dorset hills, this outstanding stately home is surrounded by 30 acres of world famous gardens, which date from 1700 when the monastic Great Pond was linked to a chain of ponds and cascades in one of the earliest examples of landscape gardening. Not to be missed are the spring bulbs, a vast border of late summer perennials, bog garden, large rockery, arboretum, herbaceous borders, kitchen garden, and the Centenary Fountain, the highest powered fountain in England.
