With more than 20 miles of footpaths to discover, a grand Victorian garden full of exotic flowers, walled garden stuffed with produce used in the tea room and a beautiful old house containing fascinating Victorian treasures, Arlington Court and National Trust Carriage Museum is an Exmoor gem. Arlington, crouched in the wooded valley of the River Yeo, has been an estate held by the Chichester family for more than 500 years and although the house presents a rather austere front, inside its rooms are cosy and homely with everything from interesting shells to model ships to study. Head to the Carriage Museum to find means of transport for every occasion including the gilded Speaker’s State Coach, on loan from the Houses of Parliament.
