Gresgarth Hall garden

Caton, Lancashire, LA2 9NB

Since moving to Gresgarth Hall in 1978 with her family, world-renowned landscape designer and plantswoman Arabella Lennox-Boyd has created one of the most exciting gardens in England, beautifully marrying the best of Italian style and British plantmanship. Reached through a mature park, the cultivated area of about 12 acres includes lavishly planted terraces leading down to a lake, wild and bog gardens, large herbaceous borders, an extensive walled kitchen garden, the magnolia and rhododendron hillside and a serpentine beech walk. Over a striking Chinese style bridge, crossing the Artle Beck, lies a bluebell wood, the millennium wood and a fine arboretum.

Gresgarth Hall is part of the following Travel Ideas:

Fifteen of the Best Spring Gardens by Veronica Peerless

"This immaculately planted garden, home to garden designer Arabella Lennox-Boyd, is particularly delightful in spring. A walk over the Japanese bridge into the Woodland Garden is a must: flowering Prunus trees are underplanted with swathes of daffodils (the white narcissus, ‘Thalia’, is a favourite), while the Rhododendron Hills are home to many unusual blue and mauve varieties. Beyond is a stunning bluebell wood."
