Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses were opened in 1832 and are a Victorian gem in their own green little world. They were designed by J C Loudon, a leading garden planner, horticultural journalist and publisher. Four richly planted glasshouses take you from Tropical Rainforest to Arid Desert conditions with insectivorous plants, giant cacti, tree ferns and cycads, orchids, sugar cane, bananas and citrus fruits. Outside, there are 15 acres of beautiful landscaped, historic and themed gardens together with a discovery garden, walkabout trails, aviaries containing exotic birds, and a gazebo. Special events are held throughout the year.
