Ickworth garden
The gardens at Ickworth were designed to reflect the Italianate nature of the remarkable late 18th century house commissioned by Frederick Augustus Hervey, the extraordinary 4th Earl of Bristol. Heavily wooded garden with yews, evergreen oak and box and paths giving vistas of the house´s central rotunda from various points. The garden includes some uncommon trees including a Koelreuteria paniculata from China. There is a Silver Garden, hidden among the trees, an eerie Victorian `Stumpery´, with upturned tree trunks waving their roots in the air, Edwardian-style borders and a terrace walk to the rear of the house. The surrounding park contains some of the best examples on ancient specimen trees including oak, beech and hornbeam.
