Ness Botanic Gardens
Ness Botanic Gardens is of international repute. Founded by Arthur Kilpin Bulley, a Liverpool cotton broker and passionate plantsman; the Gardens boast plant introductions from all over the world. On his behalf, intrepid collectors scoured the mountains of China and the Himalayas for hardy plants, which could tolerate our climate, and thus the riches of flora from these remote places became a world delight for us all to share. Bequeathed to the University of Liverpool in 1948, the Gardens are open daily for visitors to admire outstanding collections of seasonal flowers, trees and shrubs in particular rhododendrons and azaleas. New visitor centre.
