Syon Park Gardens
Syon House with its gardens is the last surviving ducal residence, complete with its country estate, in Greater London. The gardens are renowned for their extensive collection of rare trees and plants. The centrepiece is the spectacular Great Conservatory built by the 3rd Duke in the 1820s. Other features in the gardens are an ice house which took two days to fill with ice from the lake and a curving range of glasshouses with ferns, vines, succulents and flowers, set off by a formal Italianate garden. Capability Brown´s lake is a haven for wildlife and the views across the Thames-side water-meadows, still grazed by cattle, give Syon a unique rural landscape so close to the heart of London.
