Tatton Park´s gardens are almost a collection of gardens within a garden. Outside the walled garden, the earliest formal areas include the beech maze, first established around 1795. This was designed in `gardenesque´ style by Lewis Wyatt in 1814, and contains a flower bed shaped as petals. Among the smaller gems of the gardens is the Leech pool, ablaze with colour from banks of azalea each May, the Rose garden and the contrasting Tower garden with its topiary backdrop. At the end of the garden, between the Choragic monument and the arboretum lies the Japanese garden, rated to be one of the finest examples in Europe.
