The Geffrye Museum´s classic herb and period gardens are set beside 18th century almshouses, providing a haven of peace from the inner city. The 12 beds of the award-winning walled herb garden contain over 170 types of herb divided into traditional uses such as culinary, cosmetic and medicinal. Visitors can enjoy the geometric paths, seats nestling under rose and honeysuckle arches, and central fountain. Meanwhile five period gardens, spanning 1550 to 1914, trace the changing nature of town gardens and take visitors on a journey through time.
