Review of Kirkstead Old Mill Cottage (Wildlife Sanctuary)
Posted on by Jim NCustomer stayed May 2015
We have travelled the world. We have stayed in every type and class of hotel and B&B. The welcome at Kirkstead Old Mill Cottage surpasses everything that went before. The balcony room was huge. The bed was supremely comfortable. The east and south facing balcony is a suntrap even at sunrise in early May. The wildlife is all around and now can be watched on the 16 channel strategically placed camera system. We watched a great tit incubating her clutch of 6 eggs. The woodpecker thought it was unseen - but we saw him. In the garden and surrounding fields there were deer and hares. Overhead there were ducks, egrets and geese. The private 3.5 acre woods are home to an enormous number of unique trees, nearly all of which were in bud or covered in blossom. There are streams and bridges. The real gem is the huge garden. It seems that there is a never ending selection of fragrant plants, blooms and trees around every corner. It was magnificent in early May. It will be a riot of colour by early summer.
Breakfast is individually prepared to accommodate every whim or desire. The beautiful "trade mark" breakfast fruit plate is to be seen to be believed. The honey bees in the garden corner hive are already hard at work producing this year's honey.
Highly recommended in every respect and well worth at least two nights
Eileen and I really enjoyed our stay
