Lynton & Barnstaple Narrow Gauge Steam Railway, Woody Bay Station, Barnstaple, Devon

Originally opened in 1898 and built to a gauge of one foot eleven and a half inches (600mm), and closed in 1935 - what you can see now at Woody Bay is the first phase in rebuilding one of the world's most famous and picturesque narrow gauge railways; the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. A one mile section has now been reopened allowing visitors to travel by train along the original 'L&B Railway' route above the Heddon Valley near Parracombe in South West England's Exmoor National Park. The railway is now owned by a charitable trust, and almost all work is carried out by unpaid volunteers. The eventual aim is to re-open the entire 19 miles between Lynton and Barnstaple.
