The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park takes in a whopping 720 square miles and offers simply spectacular scenery in which you can do a myriad of activities, from golfing and hiking to following the legend of Rob Roy. The area is to the north of Glasgow and is often known as the miniature Highlands (despite its huge size!). The park, with its sparkling waters and heather-carpeted hills, sweeps from the rolling lowland landscapes of the south to the munroes and corbetts (mountains to you) of the north and incorporates 22 large lochs and many more baby ones. The cute little town of Callandar makes a good jumping off point to explore the area. Do the Bird of Prey trail, take the moody boat ride over the Lake of Menteith to Inchmahome Priory or go buzzard spotting at the David Marshall Lodge in Aberfoyle. You'll love the peaceful SS Sir Walter Scott cruise on Lake Katrine which feels like you are sliding along a mirror. It’ll take you weeks to explore this wonderful Scottish jewel.
