Dudley Canal Tunnel and Limestone Mines

The brilliant thing about Britain and its incredible history is that there’s always something new to discover, no matter how old you are. The Dudley Canal Trust have contributed to this wealth of experiences by opening up the fascinating network of underground tunnels below the West Midlands that were created during the industrial revolution when access was needed to the rich seam of coal and limestone below ground. The trust runs guided boat tours into the canals and adds videos, lifelike reconstructions of the 18th century mining process and stunning music and light shows to enhance the experience (plus the chance to learn about the ancient art of 'legging'). You can take the 45 minute express tour, the more leisurely two hour trip or the day-long six hour Black Country odyssey that sees visitors travel down the flight of locks at the Parkhead Conservation Area along the Dudley No 2 canal before arriving at Bumble Hole Conservation Area and the historic Cobbs Engine House.
