Goodness me, if you’re after a touch of bonafide Scottish history then you won’t do much better than a visit to Clan Donald Skye’s estate. The estate sprawls across a whopping 20,000 acres in south Skye and has glorious historic gardens plus the wonderfully atmospheric Armadale Castle and the super Museum of the Isles which details the history of the Highlands and Islands through the history of the Clan Macdonald. There are a series of woodland nature trails too - go in spring and the woodlands are swathed in bluebells and wild garlic. I love the trail that passes through pastureland (with Armadale looming in the distance) and up to the top of Cnoc Armadail where you’ll spy the grand Sleat peninsula, with the Cuillin ridge on one side and the mainland hills of Knoydart on the other.
