Barnsole Vineyard in Staple near Canterbury has been growing grapes on its three acres of land since 1993, producing up to 15,000 bottles a year of red and white wine. Wine making is a fascinating process and Barnsole happily throw open their doors to visitors, offering free 20 minute mini tours during which you will learn how they grow and tend the vines and how they actually produce the wine. What’s more, there are free tastings too. There’s a longer guided tour of the vineyards that you can arrange before your visit for £2.50 and the growers say they are happy to pass on tips on vine pruning. There’s also a picnic area, meaning you can easily make this into a very reasonably priced day out in the countryside – and you might learn something too.
