Ridiculously elaborate hat? Check. Daring, stylish slinky dress? Check. Come April, the only place to be if you like a hedonistic day or two at the races is Aintree, near Liverpool, for the John Smith’s Grand National. The final big meeting of the National Hunt season, the event is famous for its tough fences, fearless jockeys and continual partying around the hospitality areas. Amid all the chaos of the shouting and the racing horses, keep an eye on the tic-tac men with their white gloves (so you can see their hands clearly from a distance) whose impenetrable signals make for utterly compelling viewing! Many prefer the more laid-back approach of Aintree compared to the other, more formal meets in the National Hunt calendar. There’s also more racing to be had in June, October and November. And you’re off….

Location:	Aintree Racecourse is located on the A59, just one mile from the M57 and M58, which link the M62 and M6. Follow the A59 to Liverpool and the AA signs as you approach the racecourse for routes to the car parks.
