Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral is an imposing landmark from its commanding position on Stag Hill, so named because the Kings of England used to hunt there. The interior is more admired than the exterior. Building commenced in 1936 to a design by Sir Edward Maufe and was completed in 1961, retaining its unique position as the only new Anglican Cathedral to be built in the South of England since the Reformation. The Cathedral has maintained its reputation for the excellence of its music which has been achieved without any of the financial advantages enjoyed by the older cathedrals.
