A lifeline for hundreds of poorly treated animals, Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary makes for a lovely day out for children and anyone else who loves getting close to all creatures great and small. Go along and see heavy horses, ponies, donkeys, sheep, pigs, rabbits, ducks, hens, goats and plenty more rescued animals at this lovely attraction set within the north Norfolk countryside. There is also a museum to pop into focusing on farming history through the centuries. The site was set up by animal lover Wendy Valentine who campaigns for animals in need, particularly those abused by intensive factory farming industry, and visiting this happy haven, now home to more than 2500 creatures, is a real pleasure.
