Snibston Discovery Park

Snibston is a multi-award-winning interactive museum specialising in science and technology, engineering, transport, fashion, history and mining. Based on the former Snibston Colliery, it comprises 7 hands-on galleries, a children’s outside play area, wild water play, an under 5s’ section, a café, a shop, plus a former 1940s’ travelling theatre. The emphasise at Snibston is on discovery. There are over 90 interactive exhibits that are suitable for all ages. Visitors can: Lift a mini, make fire the basic way, inflate a hot air balloon and move a rock! The Snibston colliery tours enable visitors to get a real perspective on what it was like to work underground. Local, former miners will provide a guided tour around the scheduled colliery buildings and give an insight into their experiences. You’ll be amazed at the stories they have to tell.* Snibston is also the home to one of the oldest working railways in the country and visitors can enjoy a ride along the 1km long track on PITT the colliery engine. It’s a great opportunity to appreciate the unique nature of this 180-year old site.* For nature lovers there is the Snibston Country Park, adjacent to the museum.
