Leeds Castle really knows how to put on a show. Granted, it's got a head start with almost 900 years of history and 500 acres of gorgeous Kentish landscaped grounds to show off about, but they don’t rest on their laurels here. After you’ve toured the castle inside, there’s the Black Swan ferry boat (which takes you to the maze and play area) and Elsie the Castle Train to have a ride on, the wood garden that provides a riot of colour throughout the year and is teeming with wildlife and waterfowl – including the famous black swans. The pretty Pavilion Gardens are also great for sitting and drinking a civilised glass of chilled white on a blanket, the blazing rhododendrons and azaleas providing your backdrop. They also lay on lots of seasonal events such as jousting tournaments, flower festivals and Easter egg hunts.

Leeds Castle also has a Bed & Breakfast, Self Catering, Self Catering, Historic House, Garden and Venue:

Bed & Breakfast at Leeds Castle (Bed & Breakfast Section)

Leeds Castle Accommodation (Self Catering Section)

Knight’s Glamping at Leeds Castle (Self Catering Section)

Leeds Castle (Historic House Section)

Top 10 October Half Term Ideas by Dinah Hatch

"We love a good castle in our family but goodness me, there are good castles and bad castles. We’ve had the misfortune to visit one or two where we were thrown out of the tea room for laughing too loudly (I am not making this up), spent good money only to find there was almost nothing to do once inside or just found the explanation so dull we had to make up our own more amusing versions for the kids. Leeds, however, does entertainment in spades. This Norman stronghold and home to six medieval queens is fascinating inside (don’t miss the Gatehouse exhibition for a full historic run down) and loads of fun outside. We love the Knights Realm and Squires’ playgrounds, the seasonal falconry displays and the brilliant eating options (particularly the Lady Baillie afternoon teas!)

Stay: Chilston Park Hotel, Sandway, Lenham, Maidstone"

Top Ten Easter Attractions for Families by Kathryn Miller

"Pretending to be a medieval knight is just part of the fun for youngsters on a trip to 900-year-old Leeds Castle. After looking around the castle, get lost in the maze, ride on the mini train or run about in the woodland. This Easter there’s a Treasure Hunt – the top prize, is a gold sovereign that’s worth more than £250, though children can play an easier version to win gold chocolate coins. Easter activities from March 29 to April 1 2013."
