Lappa Valley Steam Railway

Opened in 1849, the Lappa Valley Steam Railway runs on one of the oldest railway trackbeds in Cornwall. Originally used as a mineral line from Newquay to East Wheal Rose and later becoming part of the Great Western Railways´s Newquay to Chacewater branch line. In 1963 the line closed and was only partly re-opened in 1974 as a narrow-gauge railway. Most areas of the track have been left untouched to enable wild flowers to flourish, including some some species which are now nationally rare. Visitors can now see a wide variety of plants, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other beneficial insects.
