You won’t come across another attraction like this in the UK – think giant space-age halved golf ball-like biomes looming out of impeccably landscaped gardens – right in the middle of nowhere. What started out as one man’s dream to convert a china clay quarry near St Austell into a paean to the relationship between plants and humans has resulted in a fascinating world of discovery. Experience the sights and smells of the rainforest, ascend a 50ft high tree canopy, spot cola trees and see how chocolate grows. Take a mooch through the lemon and olive trees and the perfumed herb gardens as you soak up a journey through the Mediterranean, South America and California. There’s also 30 acres of outdoor planting here and some gorgeous sculptures and installations dotted around the grounds.

The Eden Project is part of the following Editors' Picks:

Top Ten Easter Attractions for Families by Kathryn Miller

"The preferred source of food for many children for the next few weeks is probably chocolate, but plants survive on just water and sunshine… or that’s how it might seem. Find out the truth in the latest display at the Eden Project, which reveals how plants live and grow, what they ‘eat’ and how they get all the goodness they need from the soil. Children of all ages are invited to take a close-up look at plants and seeds under a microscope, find out how plants turn food into energy, dress up as bugs or even wear a special Velcro suit to play on the Velcro Wall to find out first hand how plants have evolved to catch food. Easter activities March 29-April 14."

Top Ten Family Days Out by Olivia Greenway

"With the largest rainforest in captivity, the Eden Project is primarily an educational resource teaching us about plants and conservation. Climate, protecting the environment and sustainability are all issues focused on here. Climb to the top of the 50 metre dome lookout and ride around the 35 acre site on a train pulled by a tractor. Several cafes. Adult from £19. Reductions for not using a car. Open March to November."

Cornwall's Top Ten Family Attractions by Dinah Hatch

"The multi-award winning Eden Project is a real one off. Not only are the biomes fascinating (we spent AGES in the rainforest one) but what appeals to kids' minds seems uppermost to the creators who have carefully laid everything out to be accessible to all ages. Don't miss the wonderful storytelling amongst the orange groves and the rainforest lookout that you climb for views across the treetops. Mums and dads may also like the excellent cream teas in the restaurant too!"
