Daphne Du Maurier´s Smugglers at Jamaica Inn
Daphne Du Maurier´s Smugglers at Jamaica Inn is set in one of the most breathtaking locations in Cornwall. Built in 1750 as a coaching inn and used by travellers crossing Bodmin Moor some of which were smuggling brandy and tea into the UK!, this was an excellent stopping place because of its isolated, remote location. It is also thought that the Inn did a considerable trade in rum, hence how it got its name. In 1778 the Inn was extended to include a coach house giving the L-shape building as it is today. Housing one of the finest and most extensive collections of smuggling artefacts in the UK, you can also experience in sound and light Daphne du Maurier´s novel, Jamaica Inn.
