Bury Art Gallery & Museum

Bury Art Gallery & Museum opened in 1901 thanks to the generosity of the children of local paper manufacturer Thomas Wrigley. To commemorate Queen Victoria´s Diamond Jubilee in 1897, they presented the town with their father´s art collection which included paintings by Turner, Landseer and Constable, as well as a number of watercolours, engravings and Wedgwood plaques. Bury Art Gallery & Museum has a varied programme of changing exhibitions from challenging contemporary and thematic displays such as the Home Front to Wriggly Stories the annual exhibition for the under 5´s. The museum was refurbished in 2005 aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
