Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo has just about every animal you can think of (around 8000 from 400 species in fact) and an awful lot more for kids to do besides. I’m talking monorail, face painting, tattooing (pretend, of course), an impressive wooden play park area (which is very good for picnicking) and the lovely Andes garden, showing the terrain and range of plants found in that mountain range. In all, the zoo and gardens stretches across 110 acres and it feels like every area is packed with stuff to see and do. My five-year-old son’s highlight was definitely the lions while my daughter (8) rather enjoyed watching a little girl from St Helens refuse to leave the Marmot Mania area despite her teacher’s repeated orders. There’s an excellent sea lion show so don’t miss feeding time or the very informative talks the keepers give. After all that, take a trip on the waterbus for some quality chilling out time – you’ll need it.
